The Paradise Town Council is considering the first step toward funding better police and fire protection on the Ridge, Tuesday by determining whether or not to host a public hearing on the matter in April, prior to the November election.

The council has heard information on the subject in the past several months and has showed a preliminary leaning towards supporting a peoples' vote on the matter. The funding for more police and fire protection would come from the formation of a Mello-Roos district, or a voter-approved property tax. Town Manager Chuck Rough has proposed three options for such a district with two of them also covering nearby unincorporated areas including the Upper Ridge, Butte Creek Canyon and Butte Valley below town.
